To learn more about this topic, we spoke with Dr. Federico Feltes who gives us his opinion on the active ingredients he considers most effective in dermatological cosmetics.
In the doctor’s words, there are many substances used by dermatologists for different purposes, but some particularly relevant active ingredients are retinol, vitamin C, vitamin E, alpha hydroxy acids and beta hydroxy acids (glycolic acid, for example, among the former, and salicylic acid among the latter).
These active ingredients can be beneficial for many people, but depending on skin type, environmental conditions, age, sun exposure and pollution, personal preferences and concomitant treatments, some may be more suitable than others.

Some particularly relevant active ingredients include retinol, vitamin C, vitamin E, alpha hydroxy acids and beta hydroxy acids.

For example retinol is one of the few molecules that have been shown to delay skin aging. The result after use is spectacular but it should be used with caution because it can irritate in the first few applications. The most prudent is to use it every other night during the first week and increase according to tolerance.
The best thing to do is to consult a dermatology specialist who will always advise us on the most suitable active ingredient for our skin.
